Today was a good day because I put aside work, for the most part (but now I'm back home and should work again), and celebrated the smaller version of my grandma's 84th birthday.  My mom drove up from the South Bay, and she and I and Pau pau and my auntie Kathi and cousin Missy spent the day in Cole Valley, WHICH I THINK IS MY NEW FAVORITE PART OF SAN FRANCISCO, I CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE IT.  It was foggy and misty and everywhere there were all these trees rising as a backdrop to the gorgeous Victorians, and there were so many cute cafes and places to eat and shop and wander around.  We ate at a sweet little creperie for lunch--I'd go back maybe, the crepes looked good and the soup and salads were good, sandwiches just okay.  But, the ambiance was spectacular.  Loved that place.

Then--and this was like, the greatest triumph of the year--we went to Cole Hardware, which is really, really, really a gem of a place.  It felt so neighbhorhoody and friendly--we were in there like two hours and walked out BFFs with all the workers.  I seriously want to move there.  And shop at Cole Hardware.  And see St. Ignatius every day when I walk down the street.  And live within walking distance of the Haight.  San Mateo is really, really great, but it's not San Francisco.

Anyway, since I love lists, here's what I got at Cole Hardware:

-A really cute yellow teapot, for our yellow kitchen when we move to Palo Alto in September (actually everything is for when we move)
-A Swiffer
-Swiffer refill pads
-Some eco-friendly and organic cleaning stuff
-Barkeeper's friend cleaner
-A paper towel rack
-An OXO salad spinner
-Some bathroom stuff
-A kitchen scrubber brush
-Some pan scrapers
-A surge protector

And I forget what else, but it was really useful.  And the GREAT part is that on your birthday they give you a discount of half of whatever age you are ... so everything we bought was 42% off!  Thanks Pau pau.

Heart, heart, heart Cole Valley.  I want to live there.

Also, San Francisco really is the greatest city in the world.

P.S.  YAY FOR BARACK OBAMA

K, back to work I go.

May is really flying by!  I thought once school ended I'd have tons and tons of free time, but that definitely hasn't been the case.  I guess it's been busy in good ways, though, so no complaints.

Also I have a lot to say about the Kenyon Review and being published =) but little time, so I'll save it for later.  I will say, though, that I emailed my dad a link to the KR's (incredible) review of the story and he emailed me back:

"YEAH!!!!"

Cute.

I really like songs written or sung by dads about their daughters.  Right now I keep listening to "Daughter" by Loudon Wainwright, and "Waiting for Jaden" by ALO, and "Fathers and Daughters" by Paul Simon.  They're sweet.

Also, I think my favorite thing about living in San Mateo is that I'm within walking distance of a really pretty good yogurt place.  I walked there today with my cousin, and I have big plans to do it again this weekend.  And every weekend.  And, really, every day.  It was nice when it was really hot a few weeks ago (weird, because usually I hate hot weather ... it's growing on me) but the past few weeks it's been pretty cold.  Hopefully summer will come for real soon and I can walk there like every night.

I heart yogurt.

Amazing day!!!

Yay, today was seriously one of the best days I've had maybe ever (if only I were close by more friends to share it with ... slash I still got to do so long-distance and it was great).

-  Got the invitations out, HALLELUJAH
-  Got AN EMAIL THAT BASICALLY CHANGED MY LIFE AS I KNOW IT.  I feel so 'official' now.  KENYON REVIEW.  Also I have a million thoughts on that so expect a longer post soon.  =)
-  Ate an amazing dinner made just for us at the Red Crane to sample for the rehearsal dinner--it had honestly I think the best sushi roll I've ever eaten.  It was this delicious tempura shrimp, then seaweed, then rice, then sake (YUM) then extremely thinly sliced jalapeno and avocado topped with this kind of salsa, with a spicy sauce ... so, so, so good.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it.  It's not on the menu yet but should be soon.  Also, the best part (besides the deliciousness) was that it was free!!  <3 Red Crane.  Also, I want like eight more of those rolls.
-  Went out for dessert with my parents and Jesse to celebrate my good news!

And, I was super blessed by the support/excitement of my bffs (and my classmates! and other friends).  <3, <3, <3.

Yay, seriously, what a great day!!!
